Microsoft AI Tour Australia Highlights
I recently attended the Microsoft AI Tour and wanted to share my key takeaways from the Australian leg of the global event.
It was great to hear directly from Satya Nadella on the future direction of Copilot and Microsoft’s strong focus on data sovereignty in Australia. Given the recent concerns around platforms like CoWork and data being processed offshore, Microsoft’s announcement of significant local investment — along with their commitment to working closely with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) was particularly reassuring.
One of my biggest takeaways from the day was the emphasis on security. Copilot and security must go hand in hand. When cloud first emerged, security lagged behind. With AI, that’s no longer the case, security is being developed at the same time as the technology itself. Microsoft made it clear that solutions like Entra, Purview, Intune, and Defender are critical to securing your AI journey. If security isn’t part of your Copilot strategy from day one, your rollout is unlikely to succeed.
In this video, I break down:
Key announcements from the Australian Microsoft AI Tour
What Microsoft’s investment means for data sovereignty
Why security is foundational to any Copilot rollout
What organisations should be thinking about before adopting AI
